Part of the Seabrooke Avenue Pump Station Diversion project required excavation work to be carried out alongside busy Patterson Road in Rockingham, WA, an area close to major industrial facilities. The project environmental management framework required the team to take particular care when working around existing trees and other flora along the pipeline route. By using our DryVac vacuum excavator we were able to remove materials around and under the root systems without damaging them. Using high-pressure air instead of water, the DryVac ensured that bark is not stripped off the tree roots, thus ensuring that the health of the vegetation is not compromised. The project arborist commented on this as a particular advantage over using a water-assisted vacuum excavator. Using the DryVac technique can contribute significant benefit to the retrofitting of below-ground structural cells within the Tree Protection Zone (TPZ) of existing trees, which increases rootplate extension and improves tree health whilst providing a trafficable surface treatment.
